As a child, Evy Windemere never thought the stories her aunt used to whisper would one day become her only clue. The stories of dragons, ancient lost magic, prophecy buried deep in centuries of myth and repression, and a battle so ancient and fundamental that Evy never realized it was real. She never wanted it to be real. But when her aunt Lydia disappears without a trace, Evy’s only hope is the stories she told. They are the only warnings she has ever received.
Evy is drawn by magic to a hidden world, to a land trapped in time by the riddle of dragons. Elemental, enormous, and once masters of the sky, the dragons’ time is over.
The balance of mortals’ trust and fragile magic is broken. Many dragons once roamed, but now they are either lost or enslaved to a corruption so dark it spreads out in twisting darkness.

“You know, I always thought camping in a magical forest would be kind of… peaceful,” Evy said after a moment, absently stroking Max’s fur. “Turns out it’s mostly just terrifying.”
Charlie said, looking around, “Right, so giant glowing trees, weird noises… and we’re still following the dog. I’ve seen less strange things on late-night TV.”
